Skoda Navigation SD Card Guide: Octavia, Superb, Karoq and More

Skoda Navigation Platforms

Skoda is part of the Volkswagen Group and shares navigation technology with VW, Seat, and Audi. Most Skoda models from 2014 onwards use the MIB (Modular Infotainment Platform) navigation system — either MIB1 or MIB2 — which stores map data on an SD card.

Which Skoda Models Use MIB Navigation?

  • Octavia (2013–2020, MK3) — MIB1 and MIB2 depending on trim and year
  • Superb (2015–2023, MK3) — MIB2 navigation system
  • Karoq (2017–2023) — MIB2 with SD card navigation
  • Kodiaq (2016–2023) — MIB2 navigation, SD card in glovebox
  • Fabia (2014–2021, MK3) — MIB1/MIB2 on Ambition and Style trims
  • Scala (2019–2023) — MIB2 navigation
  • Kamiq (2019–2023) — MIB2 on SE L and Sportline trims

How to Identify Your System Version

Press Menu → Navigation → Settings → Version Information. You’ll see the system designation (e.g., “MIB2 Amundsen”) and the current map version. MIB1 systems have an SD slot on the head unit face; MIB2 systems typically have it in the glovebox.

What’s Included in a Current Map Update

  • Updated UK and European road network (HERE map data)
  • Revised speed limits following UK road changes
  • Speed camera locations for UK fixed cameras
  • Updated Points of Interest across all mapped regions
  • New junction geometry for recently modified motorway junctions

Installing a Skoda Navigation SD Card

  • Start the engine
  • Locate the SD card slot (usually in the glovebox on MIB2 models)
  • Replace the existing card with the new one — push until it clicks
  • Confirm the update prompt on screen
  • Allow 30–45 minutes; leave the card in after completion

Are Skoda and VW Cards Interchangeable?

No — Skoda, VW, and Seat MIB cards use the same underlying HERE map data but are programmed separately for each brand. A VW card will not activate correctly in a Skoda MIB system. Always purchase a card that specifically states Skoda compatibility for your model year.
