Land Rover Navigation Systems
Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles have used a variety of navigation platforms across different model generations. Most models from 2010 to 2020 use a TomTom-based navigation system with an SD card for map storage. Identifying the correct system ensures you get the right update card for your vehicle.
Models Using SD Card Navigation
- Range Rover (L405, 2012–2021) — InControl Touch Pro, SD card in centre console
- Range Rover Sport (L494, 2013–2022) — InControl Touch Pro navigation
- Range Rover Evoque (L538, 2011–2018) — InControl Touch navigation, SD card
- Range Rover Velar (L560, 2017–2021) — InControl Touch Pro Duo
- Discovery (L462, 2017–2021) — InControl Touch Pro
- Discovery Sport (L550, 2014–2020) — InControl Touch navigation
- Freelander 2 (2010–2015) — Navigation system with SD card
- Defender (L663, 2020–2022) — Pivi Pro system (check whether SD or connected maps apply to your specific build)
What’s Included in a Current Update
- Updated UK and European TomTom road network data
- Revised speed limits and new road additions
- Speed camera POI database for UK fixed cameras
- Updated fuel stations, motorway services, and Points of Interest
- Improved routing for recently changed junctions and road layouts
Where Is the SD Card Slot?
On most Land Rover and Range Rover models, the navigation SD card slot is located in the centre console storage cubby, often beneath a hinged lid. On some models it may be on the face of the infotainment head unit. The card is typically a full-size SD card.
Installation Process
- Start the engine and ensure it’s running throughout the update
- Locate the SD card slot in the centre console
- Remove the existing card and insert the new update card
- The InControl navigation system will prompt for installation confirmation
- Confirm and allow 30–60 minutes for the maps to install
- Leave the card in place — the navigation reads from it continuously
Newer Land Rover Models and Connected Navigation
Land Rover’s Pivi Pro system (introduced from 2020 onwards) uses a different approach to map updates — some models receive over-the-air updates through a connected subscription, while others still use a physical card. Check your vehicle’s specific system in Settings → About to confirm whether your model uses an SD card or a connected update method.
