Renault Navigation SD Card Guide: Clio, Megane, Kadjar, Captur and More

Renault Navigation Systems

Renault has used two main navigation platforms in its UK-market vehicles over the past decade: R-Link (used in models from around 2012 to 2016) and Media Nav Evolution (used in models from 2016 onwards on volume models). Both systems use an SD card for map storage, with updates available to keep the maps current.

Which Renault Models Use a Navigation SD Card?

  • Clio (2012–2022, MK4) — Media Nav or R-Link depending on trim and year
  • Megane (2012–2022, MK3 and MK4) — R-Link on MK3, Media Nav on MK4
  • Kadjar (2015–2022) — R-Link or Media Nav depending on year
  • Captur (2013–2022, MK1 and MK2) — Media Nav on MK1, R-Link 2 on MK2
  • Zoe (2012–2022) — R-Link navigation on Dynamique Nav and above
  • Scenic/Grand Scenic (2009–2016) — R-Link navigation
  • Koleos (2017–2022) — R-Link 2 navigation with SD card

R-Link vs Media Nav: What’s the Difference?

R-Link is Renault’s premium navigation platform used on higher trim levels. It features a larger screen, more detailed maps, and was positioned as the flagship infotainment option. Media Nav is Renault’s standard navigation system used on volume models — a more compact unit with a smaller screen but full turn-by-turn navigation capability. Both use SD cards for map storage; the cards are not interchangeable between the two systems.

Where Is the SD Card Slot?

On R-Link systems, the SD card slot is typically on the face of the head unit. On Media Nav systems, it’s usually a slot visible below or beside the screen on the centre console panel. Both take standard SD cards.

Installing a Renault Navigation SD Card

  • Start the engine
  • Locate the SD card slot on the head unit
  • Eject the existing card and insert the new update card
  • The navigation system will display an installation prompt — confirm it
  • Allow 20–40 minutes for installation with the engine running
  • Leave the card inserted permanently after the update

Map Coverage Options

Renault navigation cards are available for UK-only or UK and Western Europe coverage. If you frequently drive to France (via ferry or Eurotunnel), a European coverage card provides accurate routing across the Channel. The UK-only card is the practical choice for drivers who don’t leave Britain.
