Mazda Navigation SD Card Guide: CX-5, CX-3, Mazda 3, Mazda 6 and More

Mazda Navigation Systems

Mazda uses its own navigation platform called Mazda Navigation (integrated into the Mazda Connect infotainment system on newer models). Most Mazda models sold in the UK between 2013 and 2022 use an SD card for navigation map storage, making map updates a simple card swap.

Which Mazda Models Use a Navigation SD Card?

  • Mazda 3 (2013–2022, BM and BP generations) — Navigation on SE-L Nav and above
  • Mazda 6 (2012–2022, GJ generation) — Navigation on Sport Nav and above
  • CX-5 (2012–2022, KE and KF generations) — Navigation on SE-L Nav and above
  • CX-3 (2015–2021) — Navigation on SE-L Nav trim
  • CX-30 (2019–2022) — Navigation system with SD card slot
  • MX-5 (2015–2021) — Navigation on Sport Nav and GT Sport Nav trims
  • Mazda 2 (2015–2022) — Navigation on Sport Nav trim

Where Is the SD Card Slot?

On Mazda models with Mazda Connect navigation, the SD card slot is typically located on the face of the infotainment head unit — a small slot usually below the screen or in the lower section of the centre console panel. It takes a standard SD card. On some models, particularly older Mazda 6 variants, the slot is in the glovebox.

How to Check Your Map Version

Press the NAV button or access Navigation from the home screen. Go to Settings → System → Version. The screen will show the current map version number and data date. Compare this to the current available release to see how far behind your maps are.

What a Current Map Update Includes

  • Updated HERE UK and European road data
  • Revised speed limits for UK roads including new 20mph zones
  • Fixed speed camera positions across UK roads
  • Updated motorway service areas and fuel station data
  • New road additions: housing developments, business parks, and retail parks added since the previous release

Installing a Mazda Navigation SD Card Update

  • Start the engine
  • Locate the SD card slot on the head unit or centre console
  • Eject the existing card and insert the new update card
  • The Mazda Navigation system will display an update prompt — accept it
  • Allow 30–50 minutes for installation with the engine running
  • The card stays inserted permanently after the update

UK vs UK and Europe

Mazda navigation cards are available for UK-only or full European coverage. If you drive to France, Spain, or other European countries with your Mazda, the full European coverage card is recommended. UK-only cards are the practical choice for drivers who stay in Britain.
