Jeep Uconnect Navigation
Jeep is part of the Stellantis group and uses the Uconnect infotainment platform — the same system used across Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Chrysler vehicles. If your Jeep has a built-in sat nav, it’s almost certainly a Uconnect unit, and map updates use an SD card.
Which Jeep Models Have Uconnect SD Navigation?
- Jeep Wrangler (JL, from 2018) — Uconnect 8.4 NAV on Overland and above
- Jeep Cherokee (KL, from 2014) — Uconnect 8.4 NAV on Limited and above
- Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2, from 2011; WL, from 2021)
- Jeep Renegade (BU, from 2014) — Uconnect 6.5 NAV on Longitude and above
- Jeep Compass (MP, from 2017) — Uconnect 7.0 NAV or 8.4 NAV depending on grade
Uconnect Screen Sizes and Card Compatibility
Uconnect navigation systems come in different screen sizes — 6.5 inch, 7.0 inch and 8.4 inch. Each size uses a different map card version. Always confirm your screen size before ordering to ensure you get the correct card. Check the screen size on your head unit or in your Jeep’s specification sheet.
SD Card Slot Location
On most Jeep models, the Uconnect SD card slot is on the lower face of the head unit — a small slot on the left or right side of the unit, sometimes behind a flap. On some Grand Cherokee and Wrangler models, the slot may be in the glovebox. Refer to your Jeep handbook for the exact location.
Checking Your Map Version
On Uconnect: press the Settings button on the touchscreen → System Information → Map Version. Note the map version and the Uconnect software version before ordering an update.
Installing the Map Update
- Start the engine or switch to accessory mode
- Insert the navigation SD card into the Uconnect slot
- The system detects the card and prompts to begin the update
- Confirm — keep the ignition on throughout (20–45 minutes)
- The system restarts when complete; leave the card inserted for ongoing navigation
