Skoda Navigation: Part of the VW Group Platform
Skoda is part of the Volkswagen Group and uses the same MIB (Modular Infotainment Toolkit) navigation platform as VW, Audi and SEAT. This means the update process and SD card format are broadly consistent across VW Group models — though you still need the correct card version for your specific system.
Skoda Navigation System Names
Skoda uses different marketing names for the MIB navigation tiers:
- Bolero — mid-range unit, typically without navigation as standard
- Amundsen — navigation-equipped system (MIB1 or MIB2 depending on model year)
- Columbus — premium navigation system with larger screen and additional features (MIB2+)
Which Skoda Models Use SD Card Navigation?
- Skoda Octavia (Mk3 from 2013, Mk4 from 2020)
- Skoda Superb (Mk3 from 2015, Mk4 from 2024)
- Skoda Kodiaq (from 2017)
- Skoda Karoq (from 2017)
- Skoda Fabia (Mk4 from 2021)
- Skoda Scala and Kamiq (from 2019)
- Skoda Enyaq (from 2021) — MIB3, may support OTA updates
MIB1 vs MIB2: Key Differences
MIB1 (Amundsen in Octavia Mk3, Superb Mk3 early production) and MIB2 (later Octavia Mk3 facelift, Kodiaq, Karoq) use different SD card formats and versions. Always confirm which generation you have before ordering a map card — an MIB2 card will not work in an MIB1 system.
To check: press MENU → Settings → System Information → Version. The version code indicates MIB generation.
SD Card Slot Location
The SD card slot is typically located in the SD/AUX panel in the centre console, alongside a media card slot. On some models, there is only one slot — used for both navigation and media. The correct slot is labelled in the handbook.
Installing the Navigation Map Update
- Turn on the ignition
- Insert the SD card into the navigation slot
- An update prompt will appear — confirm to begin
- Keep the ignition on throughout (20–45 minutes)
- Leave the card inserted after the update — navigation reads from it continuously
