Peugeot and Citroën Navigation SD Card Guide: RT6, SMEG and NAC Systems

Peugeot and Citroën: Shared Navigation Platforms

Peugeot and Citroën are both part of the Stellantis group and share infotainment platforms across their model ranges. This means a Peugeot 308 and a Citroën C4 from the same era may use an identical navigation system — and the same SD card. Understanding which generation your car has makes finding the right map update straightforward.

Navigation System Generations

RT6 (2007–2013)

The RT6 was Peugeot and Citroën’s navigation system in models from around 2007–2013, including the Peugeot 308 (T7), 407, 508, 3008, 5008, Citroën C5, C4 Picasso and Grand Picasso. It uses a DVD or SD card for navigation, depending on the exact unit version. The interface has physical buttons and a smaller screen.

SMEG (2013–2017)

SMEG (Système Multimédia Expert et de Guidage) replaced the RT6 from around 2013. It features a touchscreen interface and uses an SD card for navigation. SMEG was fitted to the Peugeot 208, 2008, 308, 3008, 508, Citroën C3, C4, C4 Cactus, C5, DS3, DS4, DS5 and others.

The SD card slot on SMEG systems is typically found inside the glovebox.

NAC (Nouvelle Architecture Connectée, 2017+)

The NAC system introduced a larger touchscreen and improved interface. Also uses an SD card for navigation, with the slot usually located in the glovebox or centre console. Fitted to models from approximately 2017 onwards, including the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 (second generation), 508 (second generation), Citroën C5 Aircross and later Citroën and DS models.

How to Identify Your System

The quickest method is to look at the screen size and interface design. SMEG has a 7-inch touchscreen with a distinctive circular central button. NAC has a larger 8–10 inch screen with a more modern layout. RT6 uses physical buttons alongside a smaller display.

Which SD Card Region Do I Need?

UK vehicles need the Western Europe or UK & Ireland region map. Do not purchase a map for a different region — it will either fail to load or show roads that don’t apply to your location.

Installing the Map Update

  • Switch on the ignition
  • Open the glovebox and locate the navigation SD slot
  • Insert the new SD card firmly
  • The system will detect the new map data and prompt you to update
  • Confirm to begin — keep the ignition on throughout (15–40 minutes)
  • The system restarts when complete; leave the card inserted as it is read during use
