VW Tiguan and Touareg Navigation Systems
The Volkswagen Tiguan and Touareg are among VW’s most popular models in the UK, and both have used several generations of the MIB (Modular Infotainment Platform) navigation system. Each generation handles map storage slightly differently, so it’s worth identifying which version your car has before ordering a map update card.
Tiguan Navigation by Generation
- Tiguan MK1 (2007–2016) — RNS 315 or RNS 510 navigation with SD card on the head unit face
- Tiguan MK2 (2016–2020) — MIB2 Discover Media or Discover Pro; SD card typically in glovebox
- Tiguan MK2 facelift (2021–2023) — MIB3 system on some models; check whether your variant uses SD card or OTA updates
Touareg Navigation by Generation
- Touareg MK2 (2010–2018) — RNS 850 navigation with SD card slot in centre console
- Touareg MK3 (2018–2023) — Innovision Cockpit with 15″ display; uses SD card for maps on most variants
How to Identify Your System
Press the Menu button on your navigation system, then go to Navigation → Settings → Version Information. The system name (e.g., “Discover Media”, “Discover Pro”, “RNS 850”) and map version will be displayed. This tells you exactly which update card you need.
SD Card Slot Locations
- RNS 315 / RNS 510 (older Tiguan) — SD slot on the face of the head unit
- MIB2 Discover Media / Discover Pro (Tiguan MK2) — SD slot in the glovebox
- RNS 850 (Touareg MK2) — two SD slots in the centre console storage area
- MIB3 Innovision (Touareg MK3) — SD slot location varies; check your owner’s manual
