SEAT Navigation SD Card Guide: MIB, MIB2 and Discover Media Systems

SEAT Navigation: Part of the VW Group Platform

SEAT is part of the Volkswagen Group and shares its MIB (Modular Infotainment Toolkit) navigation platform with Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi. This means the navigation SD card format, update process and map regions are broadly consistent across VW Group vehicles — though the specific card version must match your exact system.

SEAT Navigation System Versions

MIB1 — Discover Media and Discover Pro (2012–2017)

The first-generation MIB system was fitted to the SEAT Leon (Mk3), Ibiza (Mk4), Ateca (first generation) and Alhambra from around 2012. Discover Media is the standard navigation unit; Discover Pro is the premium version with a larger screen and more features. Both use an SD card for map storage.

The SD card slot on MIB1 systems is typically in the SD/AUX panel in the centre console or behind a small flap near the gear lever.

MIB2 — Discover Media and Discover Pro (2017–2021)

MIB2 brought improved processing, higher resolution screens and better smartphone integration. The SD card slot location is similar to MIB1 but the card format and map version are different — MIB1 and MIB2 cards are not interchangeable.

Fitted to: SEAT Leon (Mk3 facelift and Mk4), Ibiza (Mk5), Arona, Ateca (facelift) and Tarraco.

MIB3 (2020+)

MIB3 systems in newer SEAT and Cupra models can receive over-the-air map updates when connected to the internet, removing the need for periodic SD card replacement.

How to Identify Your SEAT Navigation System

Press the Menu button on the head unit → Settings → System Information → Version. The system version code will indicate whether you have MIB1 or MIB2, and show your current map version.

Installing the Navigation SD Card

  • Insert the SD card into the navigation slot (not the audio/media slot if two are present)
  • Turn on the ignition
  • A map update prompt will appear on screen — confirm to begin
  • Allow the update to complete with ignition on (20–45 minutes)
  • Leave the card inserted — navigation reads from it continuously

Important: MIB1 vs MIB2 Cards

Always confirm whether your SEAT has MIB1 or MIB2 before ordering a navigation card — the two use different map formats and versions. Using a MIB2 card in a MIB1 system (or vice versa) will result in the card not being recognised. Check your system version in Settings before ordering.
