Seat Navigation SD Card Guide: Leon, Ibiza, Ateca, Tarraco and More

Seat Navigation — VW Group MIB Platform

Seat is part of the Volkswagen Group and uses the same MIB (Modular Infotainment Platform) navigation system as VW, Skoda, and Cupra. Most Seat models built from 2014 to 2022 with factory navigation use an SD card for map storage. The SD card slot location and update process are broadly similar to VW and Skoda vehicles.

Which Seat Models Use MIB Navigation?

  • Leon (2012–2020, MK3) — MIB1 and MIB2 depending on trim and year; FR Nav, Xcellence Nav
  • Ibiza (2017–2022, MK5) — MIB2 navigation on FR and Xcellence trims
  • Ateca (2016–2022) — MIB2 with SD card navigation on FR and Xcellence
  • Arona (2017–2022) — MIB2 navigation on FR Sport and Xcellence trims
  • Tarraco (2018–2022) — MIB2 with SD card on FR and Xcellence Nav trims
  • Alhambra (2010–2020) — MIB navigation on Xcellence trim

Identifying Your System: MIB1 vs MIB2

On your Seat’s screen, go to Navigation → Settings → Version Information. MIB1 systems show the SD card slot on the face of the head unit; MIB2 systems typically have the slot in the glovebox. The version displayed will help confirm which generation of MIB you have.

What the Map Update Includes

  • Updated HERE UK and European road network data
  • Revised speed limits — including the ongoing expansion of 20mph zones in Wales and UK cities
  • Fixed speed camera positions across UK roads
  • Updated motorway services, EV charging locations, and Points of Interest
  • Improved routing at recently redesigned motorway junctions

Installation Process

  • Start the engine
  • Locate the SD slot — in the glovebox on MIB2, or on the head unit face on MIB1
  • Swap the existing card for the new update card
  • Confirm the installation prompt on screen
  • Allow 30–45 minutes with the engine running
  • Leave the card inserted permanently after installation

Seat vs Cupra Navigation Cards

From 2021, Cupra became a standalone brand separate from Seat, though early Cupra models (Ateca, Formentor) are mechanically identical to Seat vehicles. Cupra navigation cards use the same MIB platform and HERE map data. Cards labelled specifically for Seat MIB2 will generally also work in equivalent Cupra MIB2 models of the same year range.
