How to Check Your Car’s Current Navigation Map Version (Any Brand)

Why You Need to Know Your Map Version

Before ordering a navigation SD card update, it’s important to know two things: which navigation system your car has, and which map version it’s currently running. Knowing this ensures you order the correct card and don’t pay for an update you already have.

Here’s how to find your map version on the most common car navigation systems in the UK.

Volkswagen / Skoda / SEAT / Audi (RNS/MIB/MMI)

  • RNS 510/315: Press the Setup button → Version information → SD Card version
  • MIB/MIB2: Menu → Settings → System Information → Version
  • Audi MMI 3G+: CAR button → Settings → Check for updates — map version shown here
  • Audi MIB2/MMI Touch: Settings → System → Version information

Ford SYNC 2 / SYNC 3

  • Press the Navigation button on the touchscreen
  • Select Settings → Map → About or Version
  • Alternatively: Home → Settings → System → About SYNC

BMW iDrive (NBT / NBT EVO)

  • From the main iDrive menu, select Navigation
  • Press the Menu button → Map Version
  • Alternatively: iDrive menu → Settings → System → Version information

Mercedes-Benz (Audio 20 / COMAND)

  • Press the Navigation button
  • Select Options (or the menu icon) → Map Version or Version information
  • For COMAND: Navigation menu → Options → Map Version

Toyota (Touch & Go / Touch 2)

  • Press Menu → Settings → Map → Map Version
  • The version number and map region will be displayed

Nissan (Connect 1 / 2 / 3)

  • Press Menu → Settings → System → System Information
  • Map version and navigation software version shown here

What to Do With the Version Number

Once you have your map version, you can check if a newer version is available. Navigation SD cards are typically released annually. If your version is more than 1–2 years old, an update is likely available with newer UK and European road data.

When ordering a replacement card, provide your car’s make, model, year and current map version to ensure compatibility. Our product pages list which map versions each card covers and which vehicles they’re compatible with.
