Mercedes-Benz Navigation Platforms
Mercedes-Benz vehicles use two main navigation platforms across their model range: Audio 20 (the standard system, with a compact screen) and Comand Online (the premium system, with a larger display and more features). Both systems store navigation maps on an SD card, and update cards are available separately for each. From 2019 onwards, newer Mercedes models moved to the MBUX system, which has a different update method.

Where Is the SD Card Slot on a Mercedes?
On Audio 20 models, the navigation SD card slot is typically behind a small cover panel on or near the head unit — sometimes located in the centre console area. On Comand Online models, the slot is usually in the central console storage compartment or behind a panel on the dashboard fascia. Both systems use full-size SD cards.
Audio 20 vs Comand Online Cards — Not Interchangeable
Audio 20 and Comand Online use different map data formats and are not cross-compatible. Always purchase the card that specifically matches your system. Check Settings → System → Version in your Mercedes navigation to confirm whether you have Audio 20 or Comand Online.
Installation Steps
- Start the engine
- Locate the SD card slot for your system
- Press to eject the existing card and insert the new update card
- Confirm the installation prompt on screen
- Allow 30–60 minutes depending on region size
- Leave the card inserted permanently after the update
MBUX Models (2019 Onwards)
Mercedes vehicles from 2019 onwards equipped with MBUX (including the new A-Class, B-Class, GLE, and others) use a different navigation update method — typically via the Mercedes Me Connect app and over-the-air updates rather than a physical SD card. If your vehicle has MBUX, check the Mercedes Me Connect app for map update options.
