Jeep Navigation SD Card Guide: Renegade, Compass, Cherokee and Wrangler

Jeep Factory Navigation — Uconnect

Jeep vehicles sold in the UK use Uconnect navigation, developed by Stellantis (formerly FCA). Most Jeep models from 2014 to 2022 with factory navigation store map data on an SD card, which plugs into a slot on or near the infotainment head unit.

Which Jeep Models Use a Navigation SD Card?

  • Renegade (2014–2022) — Uconnect 7″ HD Live on Limited and Trailhawk trims; SD card navigation
  • Compass (2017–2022) — Uconnect 8.4″ on Limited and S trims
  • Cherokee (2014–2019) — Uconnect 8.4″ navigation on Longitude Plus and above
  • Grand Cherokee (2011–2021) — Uconnect 8.4″ navigation; SD card slot
  • Wrangler (2018–2022, JL) — Uconnect 8.4″ on Overland and Rubicon trims

Where Is the SD Card Slot on a Jeep?

On most Jeep Uconnect systems, the SD card slot is on the face of the infotainment head unit — a small slot to one side of the touchscreen. On some Grand Cherokee and Wrangler models, the slot may be in the centre console storage area. The card uses standard SD format.

What a Current Map Update Includes

  • Updated TomTom UK and European road network
  • Revised speed limit data including new 20mph zones
  • Fixed speed camera locations on UK roads
  • Updated EV charging points, fuel stations, and motorway service areas
  • New address and postcode coverage for recent developments

Installation Steps

  • Start the engine
  • Locate the SD card slot on the Uconnect head unit
  • Eject the existing card and insert the new update card
  • Confirm the map update prompt on the Uconnect screen
  • Allow 25–45 minutes for the installation to complete
  • Leave the card inserted permanently after the update

Off-Road Navigation and Map Updates

Jeep drivers who use their vehicles off-road will find that current map data is especially useful for motorway routing to trail access points, motorway service areas, and fuel stations. Off-road trails themselves are not typically included in navigation map data — specialist off-road navigation apps are a better resource for trail data.
