MINI Navigation SD Card Guide: MINI Connected and Road Map Pro

MINI Navigation: Road Map Pro and MINI Connected

MINI vehicles fitted with factory navigation use the MINI Connected infotainment system with navigation data stored on an SD card called Road Map Pro. The system is built on the same BMW-developed iDrive platform used across the MINI range, and shares navigation hardware with BMW’s NBT and NBT EVO systems in many respects.

Which MINI Models Have SD Card Navigation?

  • MINI Cooper / Cooper S / Cooper SE (F55/F56/F57, from 2014)
  • MINI Clubman (F54, from 2015)
  • MINI Countryman (F60, from 2017)
  • MINI Convertible (F57, from 2016)
  • MINI Paceman and Coupe (R61/R58, from 2012)

Navigation (marketed as “MINI Navigation” or “MINI Navigation XL”) was available as a factory option or standard on Pepper, Chili and other higher specification packs.

Road Map Pro: The MINI Navigation SD Card

MINI’s navigation map SD card is called Road Map Pro. It’s available in regional versions — Road Map Pro UK & Ireland covers the UK and Irish road network, while Road Map Pro Europe covers the broader European region. UK drivers planning European travel should ensure their card includes Europe, not just the UK.

SD Card Slot Location

On F-series MINI models (2014+), the Road Map Pro SD card slot is located in the centre console storage area — typically inside the armrest compartment or in a slot on the side of the console. On older R-series MINI models, the slot may be in the glovebox. Check your MINI handbook for the exact location.

Checking Your Current Map Version

From the MINI Connected home screen, press the Navigation menu button → Map Version, or go to Settings → System → About → Map Version. The Road Map Pro version number will be displayed — note this before ordering to ensure you’re ordering a newer version.

Installing the Road Map Pro Update

  • Start the engine or press the start button to enter accessory mode
  • Insert the Road Map Pro SD card into the navigation slot
  • MINI Connected will detect the card and display an update prompt
  • Confirm to begin — keep the ignition on throughout (30–60 minutes)
  • The system restarts when complete; leave the card inserted — navigation reads from it continuously

Keep the Card Inserted

Like BMW iDrive, MINI Connected reads map data directly from the SD card during navigation. Removing the card will disable navigation until it is reinserted. The card should remain in the slot during normal use.
