Lexus Navigation: Remote Touch Interface
Lexus navigation systems use the Remote Touch interface — a touchpad or joystick-style controller on the centre console that moves a cursor across the screen. Unlike many competitors, Lexus deliberately avoids touchscreen navigation to keep hands on the wheel area. The navigation system itself uses an SD card for map storage across most Lexus models sold in the UK from 2012 onwards.
Which Lexus Models Use SD Card Navigation?
- Lexus IS (XE30, from 2013)
- Lexus GS (L10, from 2012)
- Lexus ES (XZ10, from 2018)
- Lexus NX (AZ10, from 2014)
- Lexus RX (AL20, from 2015)
- Lexus UX (from 2018)
- Lexus CT 200h (ZWA10, facelift from 2014)
Navigation was standard on Luxury, F Sport and above specifications, and optional on entry grades depending on model and year.
SD Card Slot Location
On most Lexus models, the navigation SD card slot is located in the centre console storage area — typically inside the armrest compartment or on the side of the centre console. Some models have the slot on the lower face of the head unit. Your Lexus handbook will show the exact location with a diagram.
Checking Your Map Version
Use the Remote Touch controller to navigate: Menu → Settings → Navigation → Map Version. The current map version and region will be displayed. This is the version you’ll need to compare against available updates before ordering.
Lexus Self-Charging Hybrids: Same Process
All Lexus self-charging hybrid models — IS 300h, NX 300h, RX 450h, CT 200h, UX 250h — use the same navigation system and SD card update process as their non-hybrid counterparts. The hybrid drivetrain has no effect on the infotainment system update procedure.
Installing the Navigation Map Update
- Start the engine
- Insert the new navigation SD card into the correct slot
- The system will detect the card and prompt an update via the Remote Touch interface
- Confirm to begin and keep the engine running (20–45 minutes)
- The system restarts when complete; leave the card inserted for ongoing use
